The State IMA AIDS & HIV Cell of Kerala State IMA has been inaugurated on 25th April 1999, by Sri. Justice K.NarayanaKurup (Hon. High court judge) in a colourful function at Kottayam. The meeting was presided over by Dr. Roy Abraham Kallivayalil, State IMA President. Dr. Thomas Vaidyan, National IMA Vice President. Dr. V.C. Velayudhan Pillai, Dr. Shaji.K.Thomas, Dr.P.N.Raghavan (KGMOA President) and Dr. R.Sajith kumar talked. The one day scientific deliberations , seminar, panel discussion and workshop on Lab. Methodology was appreciated by the large body of delegates from all over the state.
Branch Programs:
The funds have been sanctioned and part of it has been made
available. According to State Govt. guidelines, the
following directives are issued in the interest of the branches.
(a)
Each branch may hold a one day HIV /AIDS Orientation
Program
for IMA members.
(b)
Each program must be of one day (a minimum of five -six hours )
and include interactive sessions on Basics (Virology ),
HIV testing, Clinical management, Blood safety, Infection control
practices (universal precautions) and counseling
(c)
Number of participants shall be Fifty (50)
(d) Two
resource persons can be paid TA & DA as per govt. rules
(e) The
DMO / Dist. PRAM must be informed and involved in the
program.
(f) The funds will be subject to govt. auditing; hence vouchers
must be
kept as per the split up below.

Learning materials and resource persons can be arranged by the
State
IMA HIV& AIDS Cell.
Important : Each branch is
directed to discuss this in the branch, identify the nodal
persons (2) and submit a proposal at the earliest. Please discuss
the selection of resource persons with the Cell. Funds will be
disbursed on first come first served basis. Please apply to the
Convenor.
The State IMA AIDS Cell will provide
information and guidance for the nodal officers and
help them in arranging the resource persons and the
resource materials.
Any suggestion from the branch and
state office bearers may please be communicated to us.
ACTION PLAN 1999-2000
The State IMA AIDS
& HIV Cell OF Kerala State IMA has been formed.The
following office bearers have been nominated by the Hon. State

The Cell plans the following activities
1. Inauguration of the Cell in a
state level function (most possibly on 25th April 1999)
2. Three regional One day Orientation
programs at three centres for at least two members from
each branch – These two members will be the nodal persons
for further branch level programs.
3. One Training program (minimum) for
members in each branch by the end of this year.
4. Extensive World AIDS day activities
on 1st Dec. 1999 in every branch
5. A minimum of three awareness programs
(of two hours each) for College students by every branch
in nearby colleges at least twice in an year.
6. A minimum of three state level counselling
training programs for non medical personnel working in
the NGO sector
7. A minimum of three awareness programs (
of one hour each) by every branch for the general public,
women, labourers, trade union members etc..
8. A minimum of three orientation programs for the
paramedical / nursing staff (of one day –6
hours duration) particularly focussing on the private hospitals
and small clinics.
9. A quarterly news letter on HIV /
AIDS in English (of two pages) for the IMA
members (or as a regular supplement to the IMA
Newsletter)
10. A set of fact sheets on AIDS (in
malayalam) for the public in large numbers to be
distributed
